Biography

Energetic bass-less trio that follows into the footsteps of US bands Boss Hog and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with their raw combination of '50s rockabilly, innercity blues, psychedelica and punk rock.

1992 - 1998

Singer/guitarist Olaf Veenstra, guitarist/keyboard player André Dodde and drummer Koos Borg are already part of groups Kleg, Firebirds, Beavers and Skelter, when they decide to form Green Hornet. Their first demo features psychedelic garagepunk blues (without bass, but with an organ).

1999

Green Hornet is spotted by Amsterdam-based record label Transformed Dreams. The single Like It Like That (Pornogram) is released and the band supports the likes of Boss Hog and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion). Later in the year the group tours Germany.

2000

In January the band's debut album, Going Down, comes out and gets raving reviews. It features many instrumental songs and the typical '60s organ and mouth organ.

2001

The group records a split-single with Feverdream and also the 10" Heavyweights: An Original Soundtrack Recording, a fictitious soundtrack for a black & white boxing movie. The mini-album is a joined release of Transformed Dreams and the UK Saddle Tramp label owned by X-Rays singer Gary. In August Green Hornet plays a showcase at the Popkomm Seminar in Cologne, Germany. Between November 14 and December 19 Green Hornet is both support and backing group of the US rhythm & blues legend André Williams on his European tour.

2002

The compilation LP Maxed Out, including songs from Going down, Heavyweights and Like it like that, is released on the High Maintenance label. In December the band starts recordings for the album Soulscum.

2003

Green Hornet leaves Transformed Dreams. Soulscum is released both on vinyl (Hellworm Records) and on CD (My First Sonny Weismuller Recordings). In the same period a live album is released (Norton Records), which Green Hornet and Andre Williams, recorded together in 2001. The lyrics on the album cover are written by Rolling Stone Keith Richards.

2004

In January Green Hornet plays at the Noorderslag festival. In the same month the band goes to the UK for a tour including dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Nottingham and London. Together with the Shavers and Peter Pan Speedrock they embark on the short Jack Daniels (sponsored) tour.

2005

Apart from playing in Green Hornet, guitarist/keyboardist André Dodde plays organ in the instrumental rock 'n 'roll band Das Aldi Combo. Green Hornet contributes the track Feed On Love to the refugee benefit compilation album Schaamte En Woede ('Shame And Anger').

Das Audio Combo

2006 - 2007

Green Hornet contributes to the compilation album Little Next Big Things by indie label Subroutine Records with the cover Der Mussolini from German duo D.A.F. In July 2006 recordings for So Much To Give, the band's first release on the Excelsior label, are completed. As an appetizer the track Wave Score is released on the Excelsior compilation Fine Fine Music. So Much To Give is released in January 2007.
