Biography God Dethroned

One of the most important Dutch metal bands of the late '90s that combines death metal, black metal and thrash and metal.

1991

God Dethroned releases its first demo.

1992

The band's debut album is released on the German Shark label.

1993

Problems within the band and with the record company are reason for God Dethroned front man Henri Sattler to break the band up.

1994

Sattler forms Ministry Of Terror, a thrash metal band. They release the CD The Fall Of Life.

1995

Sattler decides to re-form God Dethroned and Ministry Of Terror is disbanded.

1996

Jens van der Valk (guitar), Beef (bass) and Roel Sanders (drums) are the band's new members.

1997

The song The Somberness Of Winter is released on a DSFA compilation CD. The band signs to US label Metal Blade and in October The Grand Grimoire comes out. After a couple of try-out gigs as support act for Cradle Of Filth God Dethroned goes on tour with US death metal group Six Feet Under.

1998

In April the band goes on tour with the No Mercy festival, which includes bands like Cannibal Corpse, Immortal and Marduk. The band's debut album from 1992 is re-released and the band starts recordings for a new album.

1999

Bloody Blasphemy, the band's third album, is released. In April and May they tour with Benediction and Ritual Carnage and they also perform at the Dynamo Open Air's black stage.

Inhume

2000

God Dethroned tours in Japan and the US. The CD The Ancient Ones is released on Sattler's own label Coldbloodindustries and contains demos and live recordings from the band's early period.

2001

The band's new album Ravenous is released. Arien van Weesenbeek is God Dethroned's new drummer.

2002

Jens van der Valk becomes second guitarist of Autumn.

2004

In June the band's line is: Sattler and Weesenbeek plus Belgian guitarist Isaac Delahaye and bassist Henk "Henke" Zinger. With its seventh album The Lair Of The White Worm (named after a book by Bram Stoker) God Dethroned proves it is still one of the country's best death/thrash bands.

2005

Drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek and keyboard player Martijn Westerholt (ex-Within Temptation) form gothic band Delain. After performing at the Metal Mania Open Air festival in Slovenia in August, God Dethroned embarks on the US tour International Extreme Music Festival. The tour kicks off in Grand Rapids, MI. Other bands on the bill include Byzantine, Nightrage, Epoch of Unlight, Hell Within and Lilitu. The tour ends on 9 October in The Palladium, in Worcester, MA. One month later God Dethroned and The Haunted and God Forbid kick off a tour of the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Denmark and Sweden.

Delain Within Temptation

2006

In February God Dethroned and the band Natron play shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria. While working on material for a new album God Dethroned is invited to take up the support slot during the second part of the Those Still Loyal tour of the British metal band Bolt Thrower. The tour takes God Dethroned to Scotland, England, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. Immediately after the tour the band goes to the German Soundlodge Studio's for recordings of their next album. In December God Dethroned supports Six Feet Under during their European tour.

Rachel

2007

Drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek plays several shows with Belgian band Aborted during their Europans tour supporting the album Slaughter & Apparatus. Van Weesenbeek plays with the band in the Netherlands, Belgium, France (Hellfest in Clisson), Germany (Eisenwahn festival), Greece and Italy. Later this year he will also plat the drums in the band Epica. Bassist Henk Zinger is part of the line-up of Massive Assault.

Epica

2009

Guitarist Isaac Delahaye takes over from Ad Sluijter in Epica. The album Passiondale is called after the village of Passendale in West-Flanders where during the First World War hundreds of thousands of soldiers were killed in battle. God Dethroned kicks off a tour which takes them to Europe and South America.
