Biography Floris

1997

Under the name Groove Solution Floris records several house tracks. He has a hit single in Germany with the song Magic Melody. Floris also records house records under the names Sub Surreal and New Music Movement. In this year he also releases the Mastermind EP, under the name Floris.

1999

Floris releases two singles, He's Back Again and Thrill Me, and starts sessions for a studio album, this time under his own name.

2001

Floris forms a seven piece live band that also goes by the name Floris. The band performs at the World Port Jazz festival in Rotterdam, Dance Valley and the Seven Bridges Festival in Amsterdam. They also support De-Phazz in Paradiso, Amsterdam.

2002

In March Floris release their critically acclaimed debut Floris, which combines various styles like dance, seventies funk, alternative pop and jazz. The song The Weight Of This World is sung and co-written by Sarah Bettens from k's Choice. The opening track on the album One More Day is released on single.

2003

Floris works on his second album. In May he kicks off a tour of the Netherlands.

2004

The second Floris album Drunk On Life is released in May. On the album are 12 tracks, which were recorded in the New Music Movement Studio with singer Carmen van den Brakel. The album features string instruments, drums, keyboards (including analogue synths), bass, guitar and sax and hardly any samples. Drunk On Life also features singer Dedre Twiss and lyrics by Jasper Tonnon, Janneke Schra and Ralph Mulder (Alamo Race Track). Floris is invited to play at the Roskilde festival in Denmark on July 4. DJ Maestro (Martijn Barkhuis) remixes the track You And I, the first single of Drunk On Life.

Floris produces Six White Russians & A Pink Pussycat, the debut album by Room Eleven.

2007

De track You And I is used for a TV commercial by Royal Club Specials. The track is also released as a single including a remix by DJ Maestro.

2009

The album Phase Five (May) is a collaboration between Floris and jazz saxplayer Yuri Honing. The two describe the music as vocal pop music based on instrumental hardcore jazz. The basis of the CD consists of samples from records that Honing recorded as a solo artist and with his band Wired Paradise, completed with samples from the work of Schubert and drumbeats. Marjoleine Reitsma (Leine), Janne Schra (Room Eleven), Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103), Sarah Bettens and David Pino (El Pino & The Volunteers) are guest vocalists on the album.
