Biography Eric Verbugt

1966

Eric Verbugt was born on September 9, 1966 in Asten.


Education

From 1984-1992 he studied composition with Henri Delnooz and Robert HP Platz at the Maastricht College of Music. In 1989 and 1991 he received scholarships for courses at the Centre Acanthes in Avignon, France, with Luigi Nono and Elliot Carter. In 1990/91 he attended courses in sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1992 he participated in the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, where Teodoro Anzellotti played the first performance of ..., but that’s too long ago for him to remember. In 2001/02 Verbugt was a scholarship holder of the International Artists’ House Villa Concordia in Bamberg (Germany). After that he participated in the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, and the Stockhausen Courses in Kürten.


Compositions

Since 1994 Verbugt has received commissions from the Province of Limburg, from Lantaren/Venster, the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst, Amsterdam’s Fonds voor de Kunst, and others. At the International Gaudeamus Music Week 1997 he received an honorable mention for Bilder (aus dem novecento). He composed works for Ernest Rombout, Gerard Bouwhuis and Johan Faber, which were premiered in the Konzert- und Kongresshalle in Bamberg. Eric Verbugt’s compositions have been premiered by Ensemble 88, the Nieuw Ensemble, the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, the Schönberg Ensemble, and the Doelen Ensemble. His pieces have been heard at the festivals November Music, Gaudeamus Music Week, and at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse.
