Biography Eleonore Pameijer
Eleonore Pameijer is a musician, an organizer and an initiator. She has a broad repertoire ranging from the Baroque and Classical eras to the twentieth century. She has a close affinity with early twentieth-century Impressionistic music. Among the many modern composers on her repertoire list are more than 100 Dutch ones. An equal number of works – many of them for flute and orchestra -- have been written specially for her by composers including Peter Schat, Jeff Hamburg, Vanessa Lann, and Peter van Onna. Pameijer has been a soloist with many national and international orchestras and ensembles under such conductors as David Porcelijn, Arthuro Tamayo, Richard Duffalo, Ton Koopman, Oliver Knussen, Jaap van Zweden, Kenneth Montgomery, Ingo Metzmacher, Peter Eötvös, Philippe Entremont, and Alexander Vedernikov. She has performed in Europe, Canada, the United States, South America and India. Pameijer is also a frequent chamber music performer. Aside from being a musician, she is active as an organizer in various fields. She is the initiator of a number of musical projects and is co-founder of the Leo Smit Foundation and the FutureClassics label. She was the chairwoman of the Dutch Foundation for Women in Music and the Tera de Marez Oyens Fund Foundation, and is chairwoman of the Jur Naessens Music Prize jury.

1979 - 1983
Eleonore Pameijer (1960) studies the flute with Koos Verheul at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. She graduates cum laude and continues her studies with Abbie de Quant and Sue Ann Kahn and participates in master classes with Julius Baker, Samuel Baron and Marcel Moyse. She has also lessons with Severino Gazzeloni at the Academia Chigiana (Italy) and attends courses on Baroque music given by Jos van Immerseel, Bart Kuijken, and Ton Koopman. She launches her first project, 'Dans concertant', in the Bellevue Theatre in Amsterdam. The week-long project combines classical chamber music by composers such as Anton Webern, Igor Stravinsky and Charles Ives, and Tea for Two, with modern dance and film by, respectively, Ailsa Berk and Joris Ivens.
1984
After winning the Frank Martin Competition, Pameijer makes her debut in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. She also makes her TV debut in the programme 'Jonge mensen op het concertpodium' [Young people on the concert stage]. She is the initiator of a Brant Week, during which 30 compositions by Henry Brant are performed as part of the Holland Festival. The high point of the initiative comes with a work for 100 flutists on boats passing through the canals of Amsterdam and having musical encounters with carillons, choirs, wind and brass bands.
1985
Pameijer's first CD is released with sonatas by Bach and sons. She becomes the principal flutist of the ASKO Ensemble and the Schönberg Ensemble.
1993
Pameijer invites ten Dutch composers to write a fantasia for flute solo as a musical commentary on the twelve 'Fantasias' by Georg Philipp Telemann. The resultant solo programme of 22 pieces meets with great success.
1996
Together with Frans van Ruth, she sets up the Leo Smit Foundation, named after the Dutch composer Leo Smit (Amsterdam, 1900 – Sobibor, 1943). The foundation researches persecuted and forgotten Dutch composers and organizes the annual series of Uilenburger Concerts at the Uilenburger Synagogue in Amsterdam.
1997
With the actor Huib Ramaer, she presents the production 'Mozart en zijn brieven' [Mozart and his Letters], in which performances of Mozart's flute quartets alternate with readings from his letters. This leads to the forming of the Pameijer Quartet. She is awarded the Straesser-Verster Prize.
1999
Pameijer makes the presentation 'Images', five new, commissioned pieces for solo flute performed in connection with sculptures by the Israeli artist Noam Ben-Jacov. The sculptures unfold when a dancer moves in them.
2000
With the actor Krijn ter Braak she puts together the show 'Mythologische vertellingen' [Mythological Tales]. Pameijer plays pieces inspired by the 'Metamorphoses' of Ovid and Apuleius, especially the ones in which the flute plays a prominent role.
2002
With the pianist Marcel Worms, she begins the Six Continents Project “Globalization versus Cultural Diversity”. Worms and Pameijer ask composers from the six continents to write a piece for them that presents the composer's cultural identity as prominently as possible. Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ is a partner in the project, and a CD is released under the auspices of UNESCO. The project goes around the world and by now there are compositions from 17 countries.
2003
Pameijer becomes artistic coordinator of the Leo Smit Foundation.
2005
With the actors Nettie Blanken and Rudolf Lucieer, Pameijer works on a new poetic translation of the Bible's 'Song of Songs'. Jeff Hamburg writes music for tenor (Marcel Beekman) and flute (Pameijer). The production, a reading and music, is performed throughout the Netherlands. A CD is released in 2006.
2006
In 1951 the world famous harpist Phia Berghout and flutist Hubert Barwahser debuted in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw's Recital Hall with premieres of music by Dutch composers. Fifty-five years later, Pameijer and the harpist Erika Waardenburg recreate that performance with the same programme and instruments of their predecessors. The performance is released on a CD titled 'Reprise'. Pameijer, the soprano Irene Maessen and pianist Marja Bon organize a concert series at the Amstel Church in Amsterdam that focusses on female composers. Each concert presents an exhibition about the composer concerned.
2007
Pameijer programmes a three-day festival to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the concert series at the Uilenburger Synagogue. For Classical Music Week, De Flint theatre in Amersfoort gives Pameijer carte blanche for a flute festival. She holds a workshop for 80 amateur flutists and performs in concerts with, among others, the Jacques Thibaud Trio (Berlin), guitarist Dario Macaluso (Palermo), soprano Irene Maessen, flutist Ronald Snijders (Suriname) and carillonist Mathieu Polak.
2008
Jurjen Vis and Pameijer form the board of the newly begun Jacques Beers Foundation. They organize concerts and CD recordings concentrating on Beers' music. A double CD of chamber music and songs is issued and has a lengthy biography written by Vis. Pameijer participates in the Szymon Laks project, in which Dutch and German musicians collaborate in bringing the forgotten music of this composer to the concert hall. Performances are given in Europe and the United States and a CD is prepared.
2009
With Anne La Berge, Pameijer organizes through the Foundation for Women in Music a four-day Listening Salon at Kunstenaarssociëteit 'Arti et Amicitiae' in Amsterdam. More than 40 pieces by female Dutch composers are presented and illustrated with various types of exhibits.
