Biography Do
Young singer from the south of the Netherlands who scores an international hit with a dance cover of the Bryan Adams song Heaven.
1981
Dominique van Hulst is born on September 7 in the city of Eindhoven.
1996 - 2000
At the age of fifteen Dominique chooses for a career in music. Immediately after her first gig she is offered a recording deal. Initially, she works as a background singer, but she also duets with artists such as Dutch singer Marco Borsato and ex-Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley. Do first meets producer Yanou when she is at work in the studio. Do's first single, Real Good, comes out. The accompanying video is selected 'Hot' in the 'Hot Or Not' show by music station TMF.
2001
Do is asked by the renowned DJ Sammy to sing on a dance version of the Bryan Adams song Heaven. The track is released worldwide under the name DJ Sammy & Yanou feat. Do.
2002
Heaven becomes a worldwide hit and enters the Top 10 in countries such as Germany, Australia, Canada, the Benelux, the US and the UK, where the track even tops the UK dance charts. Despite being successful internationally, Do only gets as high as number 16 on the Dutch charts. Do's second single, Yanou feat. Do - On And On, also becomes an international success and again she tops the various international charts.
2003
A 'candlelight' version of Heaven comes out. This time Do does succeed in entering the Top 10 of the Dutch charts. Do's debut album, which is being recorded in the Toneteam Studios in Düsseldorf, Germany, is scheduled for release in the spring. On March 10 Do joins Bryan Adams on stage in Cologne. Together they sing Heaven and another Adams hit called When You're Gone. DJ Sammy wins two Dance Star Awards (in the categories Best Album and Best International Act) on March 19 at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, Florida. In april Do opens the Dutch gig for Irish boyband Westlife. She also peforms with them during the TMF Music Awards. Glenn Corneille becomes her musical director and also joins her live band.
2004
The single Voorbij ('It's Over') is a duet with singer Marco Borsato. The single tops the Dutch charts and Heaven is nominated for an Edison music award in the category Single Of The Year. Do's debut album is recorded with producer Yanou in the Toneteam Studios in Düsseldorf, Germany. Do receives a TMF music award for Best Female Artist National. Early June the single Love Is Killing Me comes out. Do's voice can be heard in the Dutch version of the movie about the cat Garfield (director: Peter Hewitt). The single Angel By My Side is the title track for the Dutch film Ellis In Glamourland. The film hits the screens on September 30.
2005
Do is one of the vocalists on Als Je Iets Kan Doen ('If You Can Do Something') the benefit single for the Tsunami victims in Asia. Do's voice is in the Dutch version of the animation film Robots, which is premiered on March 24. With producer/musician and close friend Glenn Corneille Do starts the recording sessions of her second album. After Corneille's tragic accident on August 23 it takes months before Do picks up the recordings again. Helped out by Stephan Geuzenbroek and Frans Hendriks she finishes of the CD.
2006
Do's second album Follow Me, a highly varied set with elements of country, soul, Latin and gospel, is released on June 19. We Could is a song written by the late Glenn Corneille featuring lyrics by his widow Chantal Nijssen. Ordinary People is cover of a Connor Reeves song, while the title track is co-written by Bryan Adams. In the fall she embarks on the Follow Me theatre tour.
2007
In November Do makes her musical debut as leading lady in Cinderella.
2008
In August the singer ends her recording deal with record label Sony BMG. The compilation The Essential (September) is the last record to be released through this label. Starting October, Do features in the jury of the Belgian version of talent show X Facto. She is responsible for the category Groups. The Christmas edition of Playboy features a photo shoot with Do in South Africa.
2009 - 2010
In July recordings start for a new sitcom starring Do in the role of Anne. The series are broadcast from early 2010 by RTL 5. Single and minialbum Zingen In Het Donker (Singing In The Dark), are released in November 2009. All proceeds go to a national campaign against domestic violence. The minialbum stems from the film Zinging In Het Donker which also deals with domestic violence. The CD is also released through Holland Art Gallery in a limited edition 50x50 cm box which also contains lithos of paintings by artists including Peter Donkersloot, Gerdine Duijssens and Ruud de Wild.
