Biography DJ Roog

DJ and dance producer from Utrecht with a fondness of funk and soul. Together with his brother Greg he forms Hardsoul.


1992 - 1997

When speed garage suddenly becomes popular, Roog's career is on the rise.


1997

Following an article on speed garage in Update Magazine DJ Roog is much in demand. The popularity of speed garage is increasing when the DJ's Johnson and Van Bellen also become interested in the genre. Roog plays at almost every party and club night in the country and to top all that he also manages to get his university degree in law.

1998

Together with DJ Armin van Buuren Roog releases the CD Planet Disco. The record is released on United, the company that also releases the albums he records with his brother Greg under the name Hardsoul. The latter works with various vocalists, such as Debbie Sledge from Sister Sledge. With Hardsoul Roog enters the Essential Mix list from BBC Radio One.

1999

Greg and Roog start their own label, Hardsoul Pressings.


2000

With guest musicians Rose and Jazzy D Hardsoul releases All Nite Long on their own label. His brother Greg has become the house DJ at Club Axl and is also a reporter with Strictly! magazine.

DJ Roog is nominated for a Lucky Strike Dance Award in the category Best house/garage DJ. He remixes Spargo's You And Me and can be heard on dance radio station SLAM FM every Monday night.

He wins a Lucky Strike Dance Award in the category best DJ house/garage.


2003

Roog remixes material for Deepswing from the US and Matt Caselli from Ibiza.


2005

UK label/DJ management/agency MN2S celebrates its 10-year anniversary in April with the release of its first sampler. Hardsoul mixes the CD with US producer John Cutler. It is promoted with a worldwide tour, including a date at Singapore's Zouk festival. Hardsoul starts its own Hardsoul Pressings label, based in the US and distributed by Soulfuric. One of the releases is the 12" Bounson by Hardsoul featuring Willem Friede and Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective). The 12" Über is a Hardsoul production under the names of Roog & Greg. DJ Roog remixes international acts like DJ Disciple, Richard Grey, Shik Stylko, Sir Piers and Roger Sanchez.

2007

DJ Roog is one of the acts during rapper Ali B's Petje Af concert on 15 June. For their international bookings, Roog and Hardsoul sign a deal with the London-based Connected Talent. This DJ booking office is part of UK label Defected. On 24 July, Roog plays a set in Pacha on Ibiza during the Defected In The House night. Erick Morillo invites him to play at his Subliminal Sessions on Ibiza on 5 September. Roog and Erick Morillo also play sets together during parties in Crete and Cannes. Hardsoul releases the club hit Your Mind Is Twisted (together with DJ Jeroenski) on a Roger Sanchez compilation. The single is re-released in the summer in Italy, Spain and France. The track My Life, released through Hardsoul Pressings, by Hardsoul & Ron Carroll, is released in Japan via Japan Mafia Recording. Roog and his brother Greg produce the single Wicked World by British singer Anita Kelsey. She also gives them permission to use the a cappella version of her record for Housequake sets.

In July, Roog and ErickE present their first single as together as producers. Housequake: Shed My Skin by Housequake & Anita Kelsey, is released on the new label Housequake Recordings
