Candy Dulfer starts playing the drums at the age of five.

1976

Candy switches to alt saxophone at the age of seven.

1981

Candy Dulfer makes her first recording with her father Hans and his band De Perikels. The track is released on the album I Didn't Ask. She is also one of the youngest artists ever to perform at this year's North Sea Jazz Festival playing with Rosa King's band.

Candy plays on Rosa King's album Too Busy. She forms her first band at the age of fourteen: Funky Stuff.

1986

Candy makes guest appearances on the albums of artists like Think Big, Rick Nolov, In America and Boom Boom Mancini.

Funky Stuff is disbanded and Candy forms Candy Dulfer's Funky Stuff. Dulfer can be heard on L'Amour Qui Fait Boom by Dutch band Sjako!. The band tours Europe and is also invited by Madonna to support her on two of her shows.

Candy can be heard on the albums of Dutch artists Herman Brood (Hooks) and Urban Heroes (Hot Piece Of Merchandise). She is also featured on the instumental Lily Was Here by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, written for the Dutch film De Kassière ('The Cashier'). It becomes a big international hit.

Dulfer supports Prince on the Dutch leg of his Lovesexy tour and she also plays on his album Graffiti Bridge and on the soundtrack of the Batman movie. She can also be seen in the Prince video Partyman ('When I want sax I call Candy').

1990

Dulfer plays on the albums of Aretha Franklin (Everyday People) and The Time (Pandemonium). Dulfer's first album Saxuality sells more than one million copies worldwide and wins her a Grammy nomination in the category Best Adult Contemporary Album. Most of the songs on the album are written by Funky Stuff guitarist Ulco Bed. At home, Dulfer receives the Exportprijs ('Export Award') for her debut album.

1991

After finishing a European tour Candy Dulfer can be heard on the Van Morrison album Hymns To The Silence and the single Nobody Else by Dutch singer René Froger. Lily Was Here is now also a hit single in the UK and the US. Candy's international successes again win her the Exportprijs.

Dulfer plays on Maceo Parker's album Life On Planet Earth. Her album Saxuality is nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

1993

For the second time Candy plays on a Boom Boom Mancini album. The album is called Empowered and Candy's sax can be heard on the final track of the album called Feedback Inferno. She can also be heard on the B-side of a single by singer René Klijn, who dies shortly afterwards. Candy plays on the Van Morrison albums Too Long In Exile and A Night In San Francisco. She also plays with Pink Floyd at Knebworth. For her second album Sax-ago-go she gets help from Tower of Power, Maceo Parker and Prince. The album contains songs composed by Candy and Ulco Bed, a cover of the Average White band song Pick Up The Pieces, and the track Sunday Afternoon that Prince (who's now also working with another Dutch act called Loïs Lane) wrote for this album. The album is so successful it wins Candy the Exportprijs.

Candy plays on her father's (saxophone player Hans Dulfer) new album. She is also a guest musician on the album Nice To Meet Ya by Sandy Kandau, one of René Froger's backing singers. Drummer Evelien Carels, who's been a member of Funky Stuff since 1990, releases a solo album titled Evelien & The Groove Movement.

The title of Dulfer's third album, Big Girl, refers to her father's album Big Boy. Guest musicians on the album are Candy's father Hans (the title track) and David Sanborn (on the single Wake Me When It's Over). Most of the songs on this album are composed by keyboard player Thomas Bank. Dulfer can be heard on the album Live In Concert by Dutch singer René Froger (Nobody Else and Baker Street).

1996

Dulfer goes on an extensive and very successful tour and works with Herman Brood (the album 50 The Soundtrack), D' Wys (O'Beat), Hips (Hips' First), Hans Dulfer (Dig!) and Total Touch (Singer Trijntje Oosterhuis used to be a member of Funky Stuff). Candy and Trijntje can be seen in a commercial for Dutch insurance company Nationale Nederlanden.

In her own studio Candy Dulfer records For The Love Of You with producer Thomas Bank. On the album she combines jazz dance and soft r&b. Besides her own compositions, For The Love Of You also contains covers by the Isley Brothers, the title track, which is also released as a single, and Chaka Khan (Once You Get Started). The album enters the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Top 10, and will remain there well into the next year.

1998

Dulfer's US record company releases the album The Best Of Candy Dulfer, which enters the Contemporary Jazz Top 10. Dulfer also performs at the North Sea Jazz Festival.

1999

With Trijntje Oosterhuis (Total Touch), DJ Frankie D and tap dancer Peter Kuit, Dulfer forms Candy's Dance Extravaganza, with which she tours Europe. The album Girls' Night Out is released. The album contains the bonus track Cookie, co-composed with Dave Stewart for the soundtrack of the Robert Altman film Cookie's Fortune. The song is released as a single. Candy & The Funky Stuff tour through Europe, the US and Japan. In the Netherlands she guest stars during two Van Morrison concerts.

Candy Dulfer & Funky Stuff tour the Netherlands and also perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague. The band also embarks on a Marlboro Flashback tour playing '70s funk classics.

2001

The album Live In Amsterdam is released and has guest appearances by Dave Stewart, Angie Stone and Candy's dad, Hans Dulfer. Due to illness Candy is forced to take some time off and cancel several shows. She also has to postpone a Japanese tour. Early December she's starts recordings with Prince for the latter's new album. Later that month Candy is special guest of Van Morrison during his shows in Vienna.

2002

In the Spring Candy and Prince tour the US jazz clubs and theatres. During the European tour (the Netherlands, Switzerland, France and Austria) of Candy and Funky Stuff, drummer Cyril Directie (ex-Kane) joins the band. Father Hans 'big in Japan' Dulfer and daughter Candy 'big in the USA' Dulfer cut an album together in the summer. In September the album Dulfer/Dulfer, the first father/daughter album, is released in Japan. Several weeks later the album is released worldwide. In the meantime Candy has started the recordings of her upcoming solo album with UK producers John Kingsley Hall and George Steward along with her regular producer/composer Thomas Bank.

Candy Dulfer can be heard on Prince's first live album, a three CD box set called One Nite Alone, which was recorded during his 2002 tour. She plays solo on the tracks Extraordinary, Everlasting Now and Nothing Compares 2 U and is part of the wind section of Prince's band, which also includes Maceo Parker and Greg Boyer. The first two CD's contain recordings of the various shows, the third, a bonus CD titled It ain't Over, contains songs from the aftershows in New York, Los Angeles and Portland. Candy 's new album Right In My Soul is more vocally-oriented. She also sings herself. Before starting her European tour in July Candy travels to Minneapolis to record with Prince.

2004

At the annual Grammy Awards the horn section at the live performance by Prince and Beyoncé consists of Candy Dulfer, Maceo Parker and Greg Boyer. Directly after the Grammies Prince and Candy go to The House of Blues in Los Angeles for a show with cameo appearances by Angie Stone and Macy Gray. Candy plays at Prince's inauguration in the Hall Of Fame. The ceremonies take place in New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. She is also featured on his new album Musicology. For the first time she is also singing on the album, while she is also to be seen on the band picture in CD booklet.

2005

Dulfer joins Van Morrison again on his two shows in Utrecht's Vredenburg. Also, she's featured as saxophonist and singer on Maceo Parker's March-released album School's In!. Her own album Live At Montreux 2002, which is released in September, contains a live registration of one of the many concerts that Dulfer has played during this festival. Five songs from her 1998 Montreux show serve as bonus tracks. A DVD of the concert is released simultaneously.

2006

Between March 27 and April 15 Candy Dulfer joins Extince for three shows at the so-called Dommelsch Double Dutch Duo. The two sing their own interpretations of well-known English-langue songs, which have been translated into Dutch for the occasion. At her US tour in July Candy Dulfer is accompanied by keyboardist Jason Miles (of Michael Jackson and Miles Davis-fame), keyboardist /singer Chance Howard (Prince), bassist/singer Rhonda Smith (Prince), drummer/singer Josh Dion (Chuck Loeb, Jason Miles) and guitarist Michael Ripoll (Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige). As of the autumn Dulfer hosts NPS radio show Candy Meets… Jamie Cullum and Chaka Khan are among the ones Candy meets.

In the summer Candy Store is released on the small Heads Up label. The album features a combination of funk, reggae, merengue and jazz and contributions by keyboard player/vocalist Chance Howard and Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuis. Early October the album is the highest new entry at eight in the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. The single L.A. City Lights gets lots of airplay on US national radio and enters the Top 20 of the Smooth Jazz National Airplay. During her European tour Dulfer's band includes musicians like Chance Howard, vocalist Rosie Gaines and drummer Kirk Johnson. In July Dulfer can be seen at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. In September Candy Store @ The Sugar Factory kicks off. Every first Monday of the month, Candy Dulfer organizes an evening at The Sugar Factory, in Amsterdam. Late September Dulfer travels to Japan for shows in Osaka and Tokio (Tokyo Jazz Fest). In the autumn Candy Dulfer can also be seen on Dutch TV presenting a show called Candy Meets… in which she visits and interviews musicians like Sheila E, Maceo Parker and Van Morrison. Candy can also be heard playing on the track Boogie Night which features on the album Finally by singer Berget Lewis.

Candy Dulfer tour the Netherlands during the spring accompanied by guitarist Ulco Bed, and an American band including Chance Howard (keyboards, vocals), Rhonda Smith (bass, vocals), Kirk A. Johnson (drums) and Thomas Bank (keyboards). On 5 March receives a Golden Harp during the Buma Harp Gala in Bussum. The award honours people who have made themselves useful in a special way to Dutch popular music. On 28 March, Dulfer plays at the Cape Town Jazz Festival in South Africa. On New Year's Eve she performs in Amsterdam.

On 30 March Candy Dulfer plays her first show in Russia at the International House Of Music in Moscow. The album Funked Up & Chilled Out (April) consists of two CDs: Funked Up features funk and rhythm & blues and Chilled Out features more relaxed tracks based on the soundtrack which Dulfer and her ex-boyfriend Thomas Bank composed for the documentary Kissed By The Grape. The musicians on the album include Joseph Bowie, Chance Howard, Pete Philly, Kirk A. Johnson and singers Moon Baker and Leona. In May Dulfer and her band travel to the US for shows in Newport Beach, Boston, Annapolis, and other cities. In the same month she also plays in Japan. In the summer Dulfer tours through Hungary, Bulgaria and Serbia. She also plays at several Dutch festivals including North Sea Jazz.
