Bauer is former Bettie Serveert drummer Berend Dubbe and singer/keyboard player Sonja van Hamel. The duo plays modest and playful electronic pop songs, which are inspired by composers such as Burt Bacharach, Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks.
Berend Dubbe contributes several radio plays for a Christmas CD, issued by pubcaster VPRO.
Berend Dubbe (formerly drummer with Bettie Serveert) calls his one-man-band after a film projector. In 1999 he releases his debut album On The Move, which does extremely well in the indie-charts. He forms a band that he takes on the road: Jeroen Kleijn (drums), Frank van Praag (guitar) and ex-Silvershed member Sonja van Hamel (keyboards, vocals).
Jeroen Kleijn leaves the band for personal reasons. With new drummer Wim Kwakman (formerly Johan) Bauer continues its Dutch tour. Later in the year Bauer officially becomes a duo. By the end of the year Bauer releases the critically acclaimed album Can't Stop Singing, which is much more coherent than the band's debut. Can't Stop Singing is high in the indie album charts in the first months of the new year.
Bauer plays the Noorderslag Festival in January. On 27 February the band wins a Zilveren ('Silver') Harp music award. In March Bauer travels to the United States for several gigs in Austin, Texas (South By Southwest) and New York. Dubbe and Van Hamel cover the song We Have A Savior for the American compilation album Better Than The Beatles: A Tribute To The Shaggs.
Berend Dubbe composes five pieces of music for a Siemens ad campaign.
Bauer contributes a song (Libitz In A Car) to the compilation album But You Don't Really Care For Music, Do You? on home tapers' label Living Room Records. For a compilation on the website 3voor12 Bauer composes a song with Spinvis. The band returns to the Excelsior label.
After two years of recording Bauer's third album Baueresque comes out in February. On the album the duo combines progressive rock, easy listening, '70s film music, Russian cartoon music, Todd Rundgren and Beach Boys. On stage Bauer is backed by Frank van Praag, Gert Jan Blom and Wim Kwakman. Bauer produces the soundtrack for Ver Weg ('Far Away'), a short film by horror expert Jan Doense, starring Huub van der Lubbe (De Dijk) and Victor Löw. The planet Mars plays an important role in the scenario, written Phil van Tongeren (ex-Blue Murder).

Bauer composes a suite for the Metropole Orchestra and members of the Dutch Chamber Choir. The Bauer Melody Of 2006 consists of 12 new pieces, among which Blissfully Up and Here Come The Germans, enhanced by previously released material such as Thin White Line. Martin Fondse is credited for the musical arrangements. The suite is performed at the CrossLinx festival. Director Hans Kok records the suite for a release on CD and DVD at a later date.
In April Berend Dubbe performs as Bud Benderbe Esq. During the opening of an exposition in New York on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the album The Velvet Underground & Nico. In front of Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, John Cale, Maureen Tucker and Doug Yule, Dubbe plays ten songs of the legendary US band. A limited edition vinyl record of this show is released later.
In March Sonja van Hamel make her live debut with her solo project. On stage she is assisted by Marit de Loos (ex-Ceasar, Solex), Susanne Linsen (Hospital Bombers), and others.
In September Van Hamel's first solo album, Winterland, a soundtrack, is released. Berend Dubbe also appears on the album. Van Hamel's live band is made up of Gert-Jan Blom (bass), Mark van den Driest (drums, percussion), Annie Tangberg (cello, banjo) and Hanna Vink (background vocal, banjo, guitar, mellotron, melodica).
