Biography Bastian
Bastian is both the solo project of Bas Bron, who makes his debut with the album 'Ready', as well as the band with which he performs live.
1998 - 1999
Bas Bron starts his musical career as a supplier of 12" house singles for ID&T, a Dutch entertainment company.
2000
Under the alias of Bastian and with the help of a Commodore 64 computer, Bron is working on his musical style in which he combines 80s funk and disco with electro and blends it into a new sort of computer-driven dance music.
2001
Bastian performs at the Noorderslag festival without even having released an album. The band, which consists of no less than eleven people, leaves a big impression on the critics. Bastian's first single 'You've Got My Love' is released shortly afterwards and reaches number 17 in the Dutch Top 40. Bron's big break comes with the release of the album 'Ready', on which he plays all the instruments himself. The album is a mix of 80s dance music, early electro, late disco and funk à la Prince.
2002
Bastian is transferred from Virgin to the smaller Supertracks label. He is working on the single Paper Love and his second album It's All Downhill From Here.
2003
In March Bastian presents his second It's All Downhill From Here. Bastian's live band includes: Bob Kuijpers (drums), Vincent Koning (electronic percussion), Caspar Wijnberg (bass), Michel Stomp (guitar), Eelco van Zanten (guitar/vocals), Rimer Veeman (keyboards), Frank Hebly (keyboards), Eva Cohen Rodrigues (vocals) en Abigeal Klumperbeek (vocals). Bastian's debut album Ready is released worldwide by UK label Hed Kandi! The single Downers can be downloaded for free from a special website.
2004
Caspar Wijnberg, Eelco van Zanten and singer Abigael Klumperbeek release the album For A Change under the name of Nightingale. The CD contains melodic funk pop quite reminiscent of Bastian's sound.
2005
Bastian writes the music for rap hit Watskeburt?! by De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig (Today's Youth). Sung in a mock lingo, it is downloaded by the masses before its official release on TopNotch.
2006
The album The Booty Pop Phantom, electropop under the name Seymour Bits, is released in the spring on the label Magnetron Music. Comtron releases the 12'' Follow The Money.
2007
Bastian works on a commercial for the introduction of the Heineken Twister bottle in 24-pack. The producer creates for this campaign 24 unique samples from which the visitors of www.heineken.nl can compile their own dance track. The single Groceries precedes a concept album released by Bastian.
2008
Bas Bron is responsible for the music and the production of De Machine, the second album by De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig. In July he plays a DJ set in Area 14 Blueberry Hill during the 14th edition of Dance Valley. In September he opens for German elektronic pop pioneers Kraftwerk during their show at the A Day In The Life Festival in Ireland.
2009
In March Bastian is signed by Excelsior Recordings. In the summer he records an album for this label with producer Frans Hagenaars.
