Biography Bart Claessen

Barthezz is art college student Bart Claessen who, after winning a Vengaboys remix competition, scores a worldwide trance hit with On The Move.

Bart Claessen Claessen records several demos in his bedroom studio The Groove Studio.

Claessen enters art college in Utrecht and takes part in a Vengaboys remix competition. Eventually his Barthezz One Hell Of A Remix is released as a bonus track on a Vengaboys single. The demo version of On The Move is spotted by various top DJ's like DJ José, DJ Jean and DJ Judge Jules and gets frequent airplay, not only in the clubs and on the radio, but also on Dutch TV-show The DJ's on video channel The Music Factory (TMF).

In January 2001 the On The Move EP is released on the Dutch Tremolo label that is part of Purple Eye record company. The song reaches the number one spot in the Dutch dance charts and also becomes the opening tune for a Dutch television show. On The Move becomes a Top 10 hit in Germany where it's released by Superstar Recordings. The single is released in Scandinavia, Spain, France (on Independance Records), England (through Positiva Records), Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Claessen does several remixes for DJ Ferry Corsten (the single Soul On Soul with Marc Almond), DJ Jean (Lift Me Up) and 'Mark'Oh (Never Stop That Feeling). In September On The Move enters the British charts at number 18. In October the new single Infected is released.

Barthezz is nominated twice for a TMF award in the categories Best National Dance Act and Best National Video (for Infected). He travels to Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Japan and releases a new single: Rock 'n' Roll. Due to problems with the record company, however, the track is released under a different name, StereoShaker, and on a different label (Mo'bizz in the Netherlands and Kontor in Germany.

2003 - 2004

Rock 'n' Roll is released in Spain too by Vale Music. Barthezz travels the world for DJ sets in Tokyo, Osaka, Beirut, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Barcelona, Madrid, Warsaw, Vancouver and Auckland. In 2004 he moves to another studio. In the autumn he releases the track Persona Non Grata under his own name, Bart Claessen. It marks Yakuza's, a United imprint, debut.

The single Move Your Love by German Double Nation (a production by Rotterdam-based DJ Rob) contains a sample out of the Barthezz track On The Move.

In the summer he also plays at Amnesia (Ibiza), the Sunrise Festival (Poland), Crete, the Peppermint Club (Dubai) and during the FFWD Dance Parade.
