Biography Astrosoniq

Space stonerrock band that is especially popular in Germany and Spain.

1999

Marcel van der Vondervoort (ex-T-Nailed) and Ron van Herpen form Astrosoniq. Their idea behind the band is to create a sound that hasn't been heard before: heavy, groovy and spacy. The duo is joined by Fred van Bergen, Erik de Vocht and Bidi.

2000

Astrosoniq's debut, Son Of A.P. Lady, gets good reviews from both the Dutch and the international press. Dutch rock magazine Aardschok gives the band 99 out of 100 points and German magazine RockHard calls the album one of the best debut albums of the year.

2001

Astrosoniq tours as support act for bands such as The Gathering, 7Zuma7 and Queens of the Stone Age. The band also organises several festivals like the Rockgala of the Year and the Gritty Groovesfestival in which it both features as host.

7Zuma7 The Gathering

2002

Astrosoniq The band's second album Soundgrenade also gets good reviews. Astrosoniq plays at the renowned South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. The band also tours with Incense and Candybar Planet in Germany and is also invited to play at the Bilborockfestival in Bilbao, Spain. Gritty Grooves part 2 is an audiovisual event that has come about with the cooperation of Roadburn.

Incense

2003

Astrosoniq tours the Netherlands with The Heads. Willum from Human Alert joins them on trombone and keyboard. The Roadburn team takes care of the band's videoshow. The band opens the official festival season and also performs at the only annual stoner festival in Erfurt Germany: Stoned from the Underground.

Human Alert Incense

2004

Astrosoniq On 6 March the double 10" Made In Oss is released on the band's own label Spacejam Records. Human Alert's Willum designs the album cover and also features on keyboards.

Human Alert

2006

Astrosoniq In February Astrosoniq signs a deal with Suburban Records, which releases the album Speeder People. The 71-minute album contains metal, rock, noise, jazz, punk, psychedelics and funk. The lyrics deal with science fiction, fantasy and adventure games. Speeder People features contributions by Monique de Adelhart Toorop (on Ornette Coleman's Lonely Women) and Robert-Jan Gruijthuijzen of The Liszt (on Hot Chick). By the end of April the band is headliner on the pre-party of the 11th edition of Tilburg's Roadburn festival. The band plays the Zwarte Cross festival, the German festival Underground, RosRock and the Belgian RockWauberg. On November 3 Astrosoniq opens for Hawkwind in the Patronaat, in Haarlem.

Flying Fortress The Liszt

2007

Bassist/singer Erik de Vocht plays his last show on January 20 during the Monsters of Mariaheide festival. Robert-Jan Gruijthuijzen is his replacement.

2009

After a break of 18 months Astrosoniq hits the stage again. Drummer Roeland Uijtdewilligen (ex-Green Lizard) joins them because Marcel van de Vondervoort suffers from poor health and he is not able to play. But when the date of the first gig is getting nearer (23 May), Van de Vondervoort's health seems to be improving and he seems fit enough to play. Album number five Quadrant (October) contains guest contributions by René van Barneveld (ex-Urban Dance Squad) on pedal steel and former band member Erik de Vocht. The track Zero is a special recording on which Astrosoniq can be heard in one channel and in the other the band ZEUS.
