Biography Anderson

Anderson is a duo formed by Bas van Nienes and Jeroen van der Werken from Ridderkerk. They make so-called indietronics: acoustic guitar songs combined with electronics. Their debut album We Radio Anderson is released worldwide, leading to tours all over Europe and the United States.

2004

The acoustic duo of Bas van Nienes and Jeroen van der Werken give their first live performances under the name Anderson. After only two concerts they win the Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland (a competition for new bands in the province of Zuid-Holland). Anderson enriches its acoustic sound by adding electronic instruments. Their repertoire is comparable to the Norwegian band Kings of Convenience and the American The Postal Service. Their demo doesn't go unnoticed by the Volkoren label. In the summer they start recording their first album with engineer Martijn Groeneveld and producers Minco Eggersman (ME, the spirit that guides us, at the close of every day) and René de Vries (this beautiful mess). In December Anderson is awarded the audience prize during the finals of the singer/songwriter category of the Grote Prijs van Nederland (the major Dutch new bands competition).

2005

Anderson The debut album We Radio Anderson is released in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg. The press reactions are enthusiastic. The Belgian newspaper De Morgen picks the CD as their Album of the Week. The album's success leads to concerts in the Dutch club circuit at venues like Paradiso, Nighttown, Ekko, 013 and Vera, as well as performances in Sweden (Jrock festival) and the American West-Coast (September/October). In December the duo records new material at René Dufry's Amsterdam studio. The final concert in 2005 is a performance at the Ghent Indie Music Festival.

2006

We Radio Anderson is released in Germany and Austria through Decoder Records. In October the CD is released in Japan by the Tokyo based This Time Records. The Japanese release has the new song Sleepless In Tokyo and remixes by Kettel and Findel as bonus material. The track Mr & Mrs Benson is included in the Volkeren compilation The Pet Series: Volume 5. Performances in the Czech Republic (Freakfest Cerveny), Sweden (Frizon Festival), Finland (Humle Festival) and Germany follow. In October a second American tour takes them to Milwaukee, Springfield, Kansas City, Belleville and Holland (Michigan).

At home in the province of Zeeland, and in the north of Sweden, Anderson is writing new song material.

2008

The album It Runs In The Family contains one central story which is being told by ten different characters in ten different countries. In addition to influences from bands like The Postal Service and The Notwist and the intimate atmosphere of the debut album there are heavier beats, synthesizers and rhythms harking back to the eighties. Anderson's band members produce and record the music themselves. The CD also contains production contributions by René de Vries and Martijn Groeneveld (who also took care of the final mix). Lydia van Maurik-Wever (Brown Feather Sparrow) provides backing vocals in some songs.
