Biography Ana Mihajlovic

Ana Mihajlovic was born on January 29, 1968 in Kuwait.

Musical Education
From 1985 to 1994 she studied composition with Zoran Eric at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. Since 1995 she has been studying composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague.


Activities

As a student she was a member of 'The Magnificent 7' - a group of young composers from Serbia. Among other activities, this group brought together musicians from different backgrounds, rock musicians as well as members of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. She taught Harmony and Counterpoint at the University of Belgrade.


Compositions

Her compositions have been selected at various festivals and competitions in Croatia, Servia and Macedonia, as well as in Holland. Story II was selected for the International Gaudeamus Music Week 1991. For her composition Full Auto Shut-Off she was selected as a finalist in the 16th ALEA III International Composition Competition (1998). She has received commissions from Radio Belgrade, the "ART-TV" Belgrade and VPRO-radio in The Netherlands. Her music has also been performed in Italy, Germany and Great Britain.


Prizes

At the Faculty of Music in Belgrade she received a prize for Mundus sensibilis a concerto for amplified piano and orchestra and the Irino Prize in 1999 in Tokyo. She was awarded the first prize by the Association of Yugoslavian Composers Competition in Belgrade for Les Baricades Mistérieuses for string orchestra and Story II for ensemble.
