Aardvarck is musician and DJ Mike Kivits. Inspired by hiphop, funk, soul, disco, house music, dub, jazz and new wave, he makes complex dance tracks that remind of Aphex Twin and Funkstörung. Together with two musical friends he runs the Music For Speakers label.
Mike Kivits (1965) is infected with the house music virus and starts organizing parties.
Mike meets Sandor and David Caron during one of his DJ sets under the name DJ Aardvärck. They share the interest in house music from Detroit.
Mike buys a Roland S330 sampler and an Atari computer (cubase) and starts experimenting. He makes an alternative mix of the track Machine #3180 on the 12" Cliché by N. Cantado (on Djax-Up-Beats).
Aardvarck records his first 12' in the studio of 'Party Marty' Maarten van der Vleuten. 2nd Groove 2 The Same Nation is released on the Djax-Up-Beats.
Aardvarck becomes DJ at the successful Palletclub where he introduces Amsterdam to drum 'n' bass and nu- jazzfunk breakbeats.
Aardvarck releases his first material at Signum, Maarten van der Vleuten's label. His EP Spoken is released on the Rush Hour label that is run by the owners of the Rush Hour record store in Amsterdam.
DJ Aardvärck can be seen at the Melkweg, Paradiso, de Effenaar, Tivoli, 013, the Westergasfabriek, Podewil (in Berlin), Nighttown, Doornroosje and Mazzo.
Non Spoken is released in February and is the first record for the Delsin label. Compilation 1 is the first CD to be released on Aardvarck's own Music For Speakers label. The label is a joint venture with David Caron, Madcap, Sandor Caron and Sonar Lodge. It releases adventurous, often melodic sounding, modern electronic dance. The DJ gets into five-day coma after fluids from his sinus cavity run through one of his eyes to his brain.
The Emsees EP is released in June. It's the first solo release of Aardvarck on Music For Speakers. The Nozum EP contains a remix by Tony Nwachukwu from the British Attica Blues. Re Spoken contains remixes by Nubian Mindz and Domu.
Debut album Find The Cow is released in February on Delsin. The CD/2LP features hardcore break beats combined with ambient soundscapes. The Donkey Boy EP, released in November, precedes Aardvarck's second album Amateur. On closing track Secreet he works together with Sonar Lodge.
DJ Aardvärck plays the Noorderslag in January. In the same month the Gensin EP is released on Delsin. Aardvarck is part of DJ collective Red Nose Distrikt. Together with Ronald Molendijk, Laidback Luke, Joost van Bellen, Lemon8 and Steve Rachmad he makes a remix of St. Matthew's Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Late May Aardvarck travels to the States for several shows.
With Rednose Distrikt Aardvarck organizes a dance night at club Bitterzoet in Amsterdam each Wednesday. Together with Steven de Peven he works on the second album of Benny Sings. The three 12" EP's under the title Cult Copy (2002-2005) are released on an album of the same name which is released on Rush Hour. The album shows influences by techno hero Carl Craig. A remix by Craig can be heard on the 12" Cult Copy Pt. 2 from 2004.
In February Aardvarck and Steven de Peven leave for Cuba to work on a new album with Rednose Distrikt. In April Aardvarck contributes to the St. Matthew's Passion New Generation Remix 2006. On 15 June he plays Sonar (Barcelona), one of the most important festivals for electronic music in Europe. Aardvarck co-produces the track M&M2 on the Kremahitz EP by Maarten van der Vleuten.
Rednose Distrikt releases the album POES in the summer. It features contributions by the likes of Benny Sings, Deborah Jordan (4HERO) and Mocky (Jamie Lidell). Remixes by Cult Copy by Dexter, Quince and Dylan Hermelijn are released on vinyl.
After Pigstyle (2008) on Nod Navigators (a Kindred Spirits sub label), the album Love Music is released on the American label Mochilla under the name Aardvark. The album Titi is the follow-up to Find The Cow (2002). It's available as a free download from the website of the Eat Concrete label.
