Marco Hovius, Arjen Pronk and Jeroen Hobert, who initially played in Dutch band The Prodigal Sons, form 16Down.

1997 - 2001

During the next four years the band keeps a low profile and works on new songs. Their long and hard work finally pays off in 1999 when their demo becomes Demo of the Month in Dutch music magazine FRET. The band signs to Dino and the ballad Subtle Movement is put in powerplay rotation on Radio3 FM and enters the Top 100 and the Top 40. The song is, however, not typical of the album Headrush, on which the band combines rock, beats, samples and synths. Guest musicians are Carol van Dijk from Bettie Serveert and Rudeboy (formerly with Urban Dance Squad). The band plays the Dutch clubs.

2002

16Down plays at the Noorderslag festival. For the Marlboro Flashback tour they play songs by Radiohead. In June drummer Jeroen Hobert leaves the band.

2003

16Down supports singer Anouk. Drummer Marijn van den Berg has replaced Jeroen Hobert who quit in 2002. On stage the band is joined by singer, guitarist and keyboard player Arjen Hilberdink. Late March the first single, The Day That I Met You, of the second album comes out. On June 29 16Down plays the Parkpop festival in The Hague. After finishing the tour with Anouk and the Jack Daniels Rock Nights 16Down start recordings for the second album, which is co-produced by Andreas Ahlenius, who also produced the Saybia album The Second You Sleep. Van den Berg is replaced by Ipo van Drooge. Arjen Hilberdink becomes a full-time member of the band.

2004

Bassist Arjan Pronk leaves 16Down for personal and artistic reasons. He's replaced by Serge Bredewold (La Lupa and Twarres). On January 15 he makes his stage debut in Utrecht-based Tivoli. As of April the line-up consists of Hovius, Bredewold plus drummer Marijn van den Berg. Around the summer Can't Get You Out Of My Head is released as second single lifted off Life In A Fishbowl.

2005

Marco Hovius is 'caretaker' guitarist of Rudeboy's new band Servants Of The Servants. As of May new drummer Bauke Bakker (ex-Soundsurfer) joins 16Down. As of May drummer Bauke Bakker (ex-Soundsurfer) joins the band. Bakker doubles as drummer of 16 Down and funk band Bakzilla. 16Down still plays its Radiohead set too. In September 16 Down plays four shows of Jimi Hendrix tributes. Frontman Marco Hovius develops a pop/rock workshop. The band works on new CD Flow, slated for a 2007 release.

2006

In August 16Down leaves for San Francisco to record its third studio album in the Prairie Sun Studio's.

2007

On 19 January 16Down presents new album F.L.O. in Hedon, Zwolle. Live the band now consists of frontman Marco Hovius, drummer Bauke Bakker, bassist Sebastiaan van Olst (Cool Genius) and guitarist Dennis Kleinlangevelsloo. First single Cold is accompanied by an animation video. Hovius composes two commercials for German beer brand Becks. As of 14 July, 16Down's rhythm section is made up of Jan Pohl (drums) and Rogier Hemmes (bass). The band banishes all ballads from its repertoire and only plays rock songs from now on.
